Advanced Electrical Signature Analysis Workshop

  • Advanced Electrical Theory:
    • This section provides a review of the Electrical Theory and how it applies to motor diagnostics, for both on-line testing. The theory will expand upon the electrical theory presented in the Motor Diagnostics course, generator, transformer, synchronous motor, servo motors and DC Motor theories will be discussed as to how they pertain to Electrical Signature Analysis.
  • Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) Theory:
    • Basic Understanding of the FFT & the process, proper use & Understanding of the FFT function; resolution, display expand, FFT windowing, flat top, hanning. Step by step procedure for interpreting and understanding the FFT display. Functions and use of the various markers, Sideband, and Harmonic, cursors.
  • Advanced ESA (On-Line):
    • Understanding the Electrical Signature Analysis Process, High Frequency Spectrum, Low Frequency Spectrum. Understanding & Interpreting the automatic analysis and reports. Augmenting the automatic analysis with manual analysis. Harmonic and sideband analysis. Understanding the importance of Total harmonic distortion, Voltage/Current unbalances. Power Factor measurement. Understanding and using the ATPOL software. Generating reports, adding additional data to reports.
  • Understanding the Faults:
    • Detailed presentation on the source of the mechanical & electrical faults identified through ESA. How to analyze Large Synchronous machines, generators, transformers, variable frequency drives, and DC machines with Electrical Signature Analysis. Analysis of specialty motors such as servo motors, machine tools. Identifying and understanding mechanical faults such as rolling element bearing faults, unbalance, alignment issues. Separating electrical from mechanical. How to correlate ESA reading to mechanical vibration. Best practices for correcting the motor faults. Identifying and correcting gear problems, fan blade, pulley and belt problems.
  • Report for Action:
    • How to summarize the information and generate the final report to create the proper action from the recipient.
